St. Johns County
Living in St. John’s County is like living in a year around vacation resort. You don’t have to go far to relax on a white sand beach, golf on a pristine fairway, go motor boating or sailing on a river, hike a nature trail, or investigate historical sites. It’s no wonder the county has been in the top 20 of the fastest growing areas in the nation for several years. The population is expected to grow approximately 10 percent to 185,500 by 2011 in the 609 square mile county.
Much of the growth is concentrated in the northwest part of the county, due to the close proximity to the employment base of Jacksonville. The average household income is higher than most other counties in Florida, and St. John’s County schools are consistently ranked in the top 10 in the state.
The temperatures are moderate, averaging 90 degrees in the summer and 46 in the winter. On occasion temperatures reach triple digits during the summer and freezing during the winter, but the warm ocean breezes tend to temper the weather year around.
